Congratulations Fred Walser!

According to Whatcom County Court, Fred Walser, you have no balance on your account: you paid the $20,000 restitution owed to the City of Sultan for your crimes. That was a remarkable achievement, and now you likely won't be going to jail for lying to a public servant, as long as you finish your 240 hours of community service before June.

Granted, the fact that you lied, and lied, and lied some more, and that you are still lying about it today, ethically disqualifies you from being a public servant in any capacity, but at least you're well on your way to paying your debt to society, even if it was only a small part of what you actually cost the citizens of Sultan, and of Everett, and of Snohomish and Whatcom Counties, and of Washington State, through your lies and misdeeds.

One thing is for sure, Walser got off easy with $20,000.00 restitution to pay to City of Sultan. He cost City of Sultan far more than $20,000. It is true Walser damaged many people and entities monetarily by his deceitfulness.

Everyone including the victims next door to his administrative assistant, Carole Pepperell, lost thousands of dollars due to the fact Walser assisted Pepperell cover her illegal actions towards her neighbor. If he had taken the appropriate steps to discipline and manage Pepperell, the cost to all would have been substanially less.

Voters need to understand Pepperell did not get caught with just one incident of database abuse. Reports show she ran one person 52 times and another person 77 times. Other people were ran illegally through Sultan PD computers on Fred Walser's watch. According to Pepperell's testimony with WSP and the Civil Service Appeal Hearing, Chief Walser would have Pepperell and Sultan Police Officer's run citizens through the police computer databases if they complained about his department. According to WSP, this is NOT protocol nor legal.

Walser had no regard for the people he was hired to protect and serve. Absolutely, shameful!

Val Stevens is definitely the right choice!

I found it fascinating that, according to Cornfield at the Herald, his community service has been at the local food bank. That's the same local food bank that he's been claiming on the campaign trail as "volunteer" work.

So if he didn't "volunteer" he'd go to jail, but he'll still market himself as a community volunteer. He's got brass ones, does our Fred.
